Restyling in the heart of Milan
Casa SM
Private Residence
Via Santa Marta, Milano
Fine exposed-beam ceilings, original inlaid parquet floors, period furniture and design pieces blend together in this late 17th-century apartment in the historic center of Milan.
In the living room, an 18th-century Tuscan refectory table sits alongside an icon of international modernism, the Arco lamp by Achille Castiglioni, while the recent Swarm Lamp by young Swedish designer Jangir Maddadi coexists with the 1930s colonial and French furnishings collected by the homeowner over many years spent working abroad.

Milano, ItalyThe kitchen is defined by its rough concrete surfaces with corten steel inserts and by the technological elements that remain completely concealed. Designed to hide its own function, it becomes an extension of the living area. The same applies to the bedroom, where an ironic collection of empty period frames and antiqued mirrors dominates the space and conceals the large wardrobe, intentionally raised off the floor so as not to interrupt the extraordinary pattern of the parquet. The focused lighting provided by the design lamps is complemented by technical lights designed to enhance the volumes, the floors and the ceiling frescoes. The sound system is present and independent in all rooms and can be easily controlled from a smartphone, just like the mechanism that lifts the large photograph of a famous model above the sofa to reveal a television when needed, or the latest-generation projector that brings the large central frame in the bedroom to life by transforming it into a cinema screen.
